Eligibility and Participation Guidelines
Grade 6 Activities:
All grade 6’s are eligible to participate in grade 6 activities. Grade 5 students may be used, but should not take the place of grade 6’s who want to play. The grade 5’s should be housed in the same building as the grade 6’s.
Grade 7 & 8 Tournaments:
14 years old and under as of August 31st of the school year and in grade 7 or 8. Grade 6 students may be used to field a team when needed.
- Will be held during the school day
- Cross over playoffs played on a different scheduled day or evening.
- Coaches and athletes should be prepared to stay longer than 2:30 p.m.
- Middle School “Cross over Rule” (when applicable). Playoffs during an Even Calendar year will be held in one of the finalist’s schools in the South. Playoffs during an Odd Calendar year will be held in one of the finalist’s schools in the North.
- Visiting schools should inform the host school of their approximate arrival time at the league game or the all day tournament.
- A teacher (or Sunrise staff) supervisor must be present at for each school competing at S.A.C. events.
- Student athletes should be dressed in appropriate attire.
- In case of poor weather conditions, time delay in games and or safety concerns, the convenor reserves the right to alter or change the format of the game or tournament. Consultation with the coaches and teacher supervisors involved would be advisable.
- Coaches, athletes and teacher supervisors should respect the decisions of all officials in regards to game play.
- Concerns in regards to game results, officiating concerns, eligibility, and conduct of a participating athlete or coach should be brought to the convenors attention as soon as possible.
- Unsportsmanlike conduct by athletes or coaches directed to other athletes, coaches or officials will not be tolerated at Sunrise Athletic Conference Events. The convenor reserves the right to eject (suspend) the athlete or coach from the game or tournament and up to 3 games maximum with no right to appeal. In addition to a game(s) or tournament suspension, unsportsmanlike actions that are repetitive or severe in nature may result in a further suspension of offending athlete(s) and coaches upon the discretion of SAC president and the administration of the schools involved as prescribed in the SUNRISE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE SPORTS & ACTIVITY CONDUCT GUIDELINES.
- Convenors hosting North and South tournaments need to send their results as soon as possible to the convener who is hosting the Crossover tournament.
- Convenors are requested to keep the scheduling package of their sport to use as a sample for the next calendar year.
- Schools that forfeit a game at the last minute (on the game day) outside of poor weather concerns will be responsible for covering any substitute and transportation costs incurred by the forfeiture, in addition to the SAC performance bond.
- Schools organizing Middle Years school day tournaments for extra games prior to the league playoffs must have the events sanctioned (approved) by SAC. Volleyball tournaments must be sanctioned by the first meeting in September while basketball tournaments must be sanctioned by the January meeting. After school and weekend tournaments do not need to be sanctioned by SAC.
