A. FORMAT:
1. Separate North and South tournaments, with crossover championships
Top 2 in the North vs. Top 2 in the South
2. Boys and girls team, 2 teams maximum per gender per school.
3. Approximate date: Last week of November
Cross Over playoffs- first week of December
B. CVA RULES WILL APPLY - WITH THE FOLLOWING MODIFICATIONS.
CVA Rules Officiating resource
1. Matches consist of best of 3 sets. First 2 sets to 25 points, 3rd set (if necessary) to 15 points. (half-hour time limit).
2. 1 timeout per set, one minute in duration.
a. The Referee may grant an additional “Fair Play” timeout in situations where a player may require intervention from a coach
or school staff member. This player may be substituted for if they are unable to regain their composure, with the player able
to Rejoin the game if they are able at the earliest opportunity.
3. One step over the back court line is allowed on serves if playing cross-court.
4. Players may legally overhead pass a served ball.
5. Full warm up for the first match and then a 2-minute warm up for all the other games.
6. Games may go ahead of schedule and teams should be prepared to play
7. Playing time- Set 1 and 2 new 6 each set. Set 3 coaches’ decision.
8. In a 25 point game, maximum of 5 serves in a row by one player.
9. Net height at 2.13 meters.
10. The official ball for middle years will be the Mikasa MVA200.
C. Playoff Rules
1. In case of a tie in standings, order of finish will be determined by:
2. Round robin with playoffs to determine the top two teams for crossover
3. In playoffs, best 2 out of 3, 25 point sets with a two-point advantage and 3rd set up to 15 with no cap.
4. A 30 minute break between the last semi-final match and the finals should be placed into the cross-over schedule in order for coaches to rest their players. However, if both teams mutually agree to start the championship game earlier, they may do so.
5. Banners will be given out to first place teams and ribbons to the champions (red) and finalists (blue).

- Top 4 teams advance to semi final
Semi Final #1- 1 vs 4
Semi Final #2- 2 vs 3
- Finalist advance to Crossover and will be seeded based on outcome of final
B. If there are 6 or more teams- play a round robin within each pool:
- Have two pools, with the top two in each pool advancing to a semi final.
Semi Final #1- 1A vs 2B
Semi Final #2- 2A vs 1B
- Finalists advance to Crossover and will be seeded based on outcome of final
The convener has the ability to adjust playing format between matches (not within match) to maintain flow of tournament play. These changes should be mutually agreed upon by the coaches and communicated to all teams and officials.
